Launching test, going to different page i.e. Firefox page, the relative section of test sometimes disappears and it is impossible to know when test is ended.

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this issue!

This problem seems related to the refresh of the interface (handled directly by the application).
The only thing that I can do is do a manual refresh to that area (since disappear also the buttons, not only the progressbar) during the test.

Sam

So "do a manual refresh" means that application in next release will refresh area much more frequently ?
And in the meantime what can I do to refresh ?

Yes, in the next version the progress bar area will be refreshed each second.
In the meanwhile, you can download the last beta from here, where I've corrected this little "bug"! ;)

How ended the test ? It is still buggy !
So same it ends correctly same it stops during the test, the progress bar is removed.

Testing is stopped before the end was when did on the two WD drives.
Seagate seemed worked good.

If have some video to explain you better.
Let me know if I have to attach the link to view them.
Thanks

Hi,

I'm sorry for the late reply, but I was notified only yesterday of the new posts... -_-

I've uploaded now a new build that should fix this issue, that was related to a line of code that make disappear the progressbar when devices where updated automatically; let me know if you find other bugs! ;)

But when create new release, do you check before publishing if problem is gone ?

So is it possible that progress bar does NOT disappear when reached 100% and text "test complete" comes out ??

PS: little bug still present as before: when reach 10% of test, the text "Fine del test stimata ... " from side goes down the progress bar ....

New beta 8 ? The latest one ?

Yes, but some things can slip away after a day of work: I'm working on this project during my spare time, and I'm not a professional programmer...

This could be a good idea, I can make appear a popup baloon or a messagebox...

This is due to the fact that your window is too small; anyway, I'll put it on the bottom of the progressbar, this should be ok?

I don't know, it depends if other users inform me of other bugs... Anyway, I want to publish the next release prior to the end of this year.

Even if progresss bar at the end still disappeared (again ??), at least there is the small box confirming that test was ok.

At the end of the test the progressbar must disappear, since is also not visible before you run a test.
Anyway, all test results are gathered into the page called "Self test results" (o, meglio, "Risultati self-test").

As in self test results there is any report, did it end bad or ?
Test arrived at 100% or 90% ?

I also redid the test and this time completed good, why in results there is written that was done 3140 hours ago ??

HDD Guardian determine the end of the test using the estimated duration provided by the disk; as it's wrote on the top of the test panel, if the disk is busy, the test could be more longer. In your case the test was done at 90%, so the test result appear in the log a little more later.

To avoid a thing like that you have experienced, the only way is to ask several times to the disk the test percentage, but it provides only percentages by units of 10.
With a short test (more or less 2 minutes) this should be viable since the disk will be bother more or less each 12 seconds and you see the progressbar advancing more or less smoothly, but with a long test or an offline collection (these requires 2 or more hours), seeing the progressbar advancing of 10% each 10 minutes (or more) is not comfortable for the user, that should thinking that the drive or HDD Guardian itself is freezing.

About the wrong time of 3140 hours, it seems that some devices provide a bad test log: I've an SSD (that theoretically don't support this feature) that provide a log with several running tests with various remaining percentages and with mixed times (see this image).

I have to submit to smartmontools team this issue, since using the option "-a" my SSD seems that don't support tests log feature, but using "-x" option display a test log that shouldn't exist.

Update:

I've contacted smartmontools team, and it seems that the extended self test log (called with "-x" command) is not fully supported from all devices and make appear some strange data (instead, the normal self test log is fully supported), so I'm switching back to the old commands used until version 0.6.3 of HDD Guardian (and now available on beta 11 of version 0.7.1).
